Chuck Mayes entered the A/E industry as a geologist, but he soon discovered his calling in architecture. Instead of extracting minerals or oil, he’s been unearthing stories and telling them with his designs in hundreds of places around the world for over 30 years. His work has encompassed a wide range of species, environments, and historical sites – from designing habitats for penguins and tigers that represent the Arctic tundra and African savanna to interpretive planning at Pearl Harbor and the Oregon Trail. Chuck’s inspiration comes from connecting people to history, culture, and nature in ways that reflect an accurate world view. He can think simultaneously about the Big Picture and the technical details. His eye for those details allows him to quickly identify and resolve design issues. An advocate of lifelong learning, collaboration, and exploration, Chuck uses the latest technology and tools to illuminate the past and celebrate nature.
