Freezing with Fear, Thawing with Hope

Hermosa Beach—beautiful beach. And indeed it is, with hot surf spots, a wide sand beach, and bustling beach boardwalk. But with the lurking specter of climate change and sea level rise that threatens its very existence. And that story is happening up and down and the coasts of the US and the world.

We often think that scaring people with modeling and inundation maps will be enough to ensure acceptance of engineering and landscape architecture solutions that can protect homes and property. But how you communicate about solutions is as important as the solution itself, as Jenni Zell, MIG’s Director of Regenerative Design, demonstrated during a recent presentation to the ASLA, Southern California Climate Action Symposium.
